There are two power plants in Penang. Both powered by fossil fuel.
Butterworth Power Plant is the first power plant in Penang which supplies electricity to households and industries in Penang and Butterworth. The demand for power has exceeded supplies and electricity is now imported from other states.
Located at Prai, Butterworth, south of Butterworth Deep Sea Wharf.
